Remember Me

The International Film Festival Rotterdam is celebrating its 50th anniversary! As before GayRotterdam is your guide to the most interesting LGBTQ+ related films at the IFFR. One of those films is ‘Madalena’ by Brazilian director Madiano Marcheti. Seeing and reviewing this film gave us the chance to explore Brazilian culture and talk to Marcheti about his experience making the film and his approach to telling the stories of Brazil’s trans people.

Lantarenvenster

January 23, 2020

In an era of big budget films and huge movie theatres it’s a breath of fresh air to discover places like Lantarenvenster that push back and give moviegoers the opportunity to experience a more relaxed vibe.

Lantarenvenster is a household name in Rotterdam, located at the Kop van Zuid in the impressive skyscraper ‘New Orleans’. The venue not only houses five film/concert halls but also a lovely café with a view of the river.

Anyone living in Rotterdam – or for that matter living anywhere in the Randstad – can vouch for the fact that space is a luxury. This is exactly what makes Lantarenvenster so unique. The minute you walk into this theatre all of the space and light in the venue invite you to feel light completely relaxed.

In addition to the delightful ambience, the theatre also offers a wide array of movies. Lantarenvenster has proven over and over again that it never loses sight of the relevance of LGBTQI+ themes in their selection of films.
They have regular exclusive screenings or events with an introduction. You can also check out the expat night screenings where interesting non English films are made accessible .

Apart from the lovely ambience and the great movies, the friendly staff make an outing to Lantarenvenster a real joy. So, what are you waiting for?
